Dear Climate Change Community,

With a mix of apprehension and hope, I write to share a significant shift in our journey together. After careful consideration of health concerns and the safety of my family, I’ve made the difficult decision to close Climate Change Community (.com) and its related endeavors. However, this isn’t the end; rather, it marks a redirection of focus towards avenues that align with our mission and my personal circumstances.

Amidst this transition, I find solace in redirecting my energy towards initiatives such as the Climate Reality Project’s Climate Leadership Training and engaging with the Th!rd Act Climate Workgroups, particularly the Creativity Workgroup. These platforms offer a space for continued learning and collaboration, despite the necessary changes.

Reflecting on the investments made in this journey—financially, emotionally, and intellectually—I’m compelled to preserve the spirit of our community. Hence, I’m excited to introduce a new venture: the Climate Book Club. This innovative endeavor aims not only to foster self-education but also to empower members to contribute actively to local communities through shared knowledge and proactive measures.

As we navigate this transition, I am acutely aware of the urgent need for adaptive resiliency. In light of the escalating Climate Emergency, I’m committed to delving deep into self-directed learning on this crucial subject. It’s not merely a choice but a necessity—one that demands our collective attention and action.

Looking ahead, I envision the book club as a beacon of resilience, a space where we can cultivate not only our individual perseverance but also that of our communities, families, and friends. Together, we’ll embark on a journey of learning and transformation, armed with knowledge and determination to confront the challenges ahead.

While the decision to close down certain endeavors weighs heavily on my heart, I’m reminded of the paramount importance of health and safety. In the face of opposition and potential threats, my resolve remains unwavering. As a wise friend once advised, prioritizing the well-being of myself and my loved ones is paramount.

Acknowledging personal accountability, I recognize the impact of past habits and choices on my journey thus far. This period of introspection and transformation, marked by health challenges, serves as a poignant reminder of the need for self-awareness and responsibility.

Though my energy may be limited in the immediate future, my dedication to the fight against the Climate Emergency remains steadfast. Through initiatives like the book club and continued support for vital organizations, I aim to contribute meaningfully to our collective efforts.

In the realm of education, I extend an invitation to educators interested in moderating our hosted community geared towards climate education. This platform, though requiring closure, holds immense potential for those passionate about bringing climate education to classrooms. Please reach out to ccc@ourclimatehealth.com for further details.

In closing, I draw inspiration from the wisdom of renowned scholars and practitioners in the field of communication. Their insights underscore the importance of dialogue and connection, essential components of adaptive resiliency. As we embark on this journey together, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to learning, growth, and positive change.

Yours in resilience,

A Call to Action: Empowering the Next Generation in the Climate Crisis

Dear Young Advocates,

As we stand at the crossroads of environmental stewardship and the looming Climate Emergency, it’s imperative to address the root causes and empower ourselves for meaningful change. To the younger generation reading this, I extend a heartfelt plea for action and solidarity in the face of unprecedented challenges.

Our world stands on the precipice of a ‘net zero’ future, a vision that hinges on collective responsibility and decisive action. Yet, the stark reality remains: the current crisis is a direct consequence of the actions of previous generations, driven by avarice and disregard for the planet’s well-being. The onus now falls upon us to rectify these wrongs and forge a path towards sustainability and resilience.

We’ve witnessed the gradual degradation of our environment—from once pristine air and waterways to the alarming decline in biodiversity. The consequences of inaction are dire, threatening not only our own survival but that of future generations. It’s a sobering realization, one that demands immediate and concerted effort.

As we navigate this turbulent landscape, it’s essential to hold accountable those in positions of power and influence. Past promises and rhetoric must be met with tangible action, not mere lip service. We must scrutinize the actions of leaders, businesses, and institutions, holding them to task for their commitments to a sustainable future.

The road ahead is fraught with challenges, yet it’s also brimming with opportunities for positive change. Together, we can leverage our collective voice and agency to shape a future that prioritizes environmental stewardship and social justice.

Amidst my own journey towards greater resilience and advocacy, I pledge to stand alongside you, albeit in a limited capacity. My dedication to fostering ‘Adaptive Resiliency’ is unwavering, fueled by a fervent desire to secure a brighter future for all.

As we approach pivotal elections and decision-making moments, let us choose leaders who embody empathy, compassion, and a genuine commitment to addressing the Climate Emergency. It’s not just about policies; it’s about the values and principles that guide our actions and shape our collective destiny.

In closing, I draw inspiration from the words of Daisaku Ikeda, a poignant reminder of the transformative power of empathy and compassion. Together, let us cultivate a society built on these principles, where hope flourishes, and the well-being of all is paramount.

“What our society today needs more than anything is the spirit of empathy—the ability to put ourselves in the shoes of those who are facing hardships and suffering, to understand and share what they are going through. When the spirit of compassion becomes the bedrock of society, and is embodied by society’s leaders, the future will be bright with hope.”

With unwavering resolve and solidarity,
